Those people who like to read literary prize shortlists before the winner is announced better get cracking as we have just had the announcement of the contenders for the £40,000 Folio Prize 2015. This is open to all English language writing authors worldwide. It’s only the second year for this award, last year it went to American author George Saunders and his short story collection “Tenth Of December”. The eight contenders for this year prize are:
- Outline – Rachel Cusk (Canadian author based in UK)
- 10.04- Ben Lerner (US)
- Dept Of Speculation – Jenny Offill (US)
- Dust – Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor (Kenya)
- Family Life – Akhil Sharma (Indian author based in US)
- How To Be Both – Ali Smith (UK author, already winner of Costa Novel and Goldsmiths Prize for this title)
- Nora Webster – Colm Toibin (Ire)
- All My Puny Sorrows – Miriam Toews (Canada)

Hmm…I’ve only read one – Nora Webster, which is great – and don’t see me getting through the rest of the list. So – I vote for Nora Webster! 😉
